Selous Game Reserve & Mafia Island Itinerary
Your driver guide in an open roof vehicle will pick you up from your location in Dar and drive you to Selous Game Reserve, a five hours drive off the beaten track from Dar. Have your lunch upon your arrival and go for boat safari along river Rufiji. Selous has some of the best boat safaris found anywhere in Africa. Enjoy game viewing on top of water as you see hippos, crocodiles and elephants along the river. In the evening it’s dinner and overnight at Africa Safari Camp Selous. Meal plan (lunch + dinner)
Have your breakfast at 7:00 AM and at 8:00 AM with picnic lunch go for game drive in Selous named after Frederick Selous the famous British explorer. Selous is Africa’s biggest game reserve and get to see some fabulous game including elephant, wild dog, buffalo, giraffes, crocodile and fantastic prides of lion. Enjoy your lunch at 12:30 pm at a perfect spot chosen by your guide. After lunch continue with game drive until evening In the evening return to your lodge for dinner and overnight. Have your breakfast at 7:00 AM, and at 8:00 AM, with picnic lunch, go for a full-day game drive and explore other parts of the reserve that covers an area of nearly 50,000 square kilometres or 19,000 square miles. At 4:00 PM, go for a village tour at Mloka village, where you shall visit the market, police post, shops and meet the local people going about their village life. Mloka village gives you the opportunity of experiencing a real African village life. In the evening return to your lodge for dinner and overnight. Meal plan (breakfast + lunch + dinner)
Wake up early in the morning and go for an early morning walking safari from 6:30 AM in the reserve where you will be accompanied by an armed ranger. Explore this rich untouched wilderness on foot until 9:30 AM when you shall return to lodge for your breakfast. After breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip to board your flight to Mafia island. You shall be picked up in Mafia island airport upon your arrival by your already waiting driver and be transferred to your hotel Mafia island lodge. In the evening it’s dinner and overnight at Mafia island lodge.
After your breakfast, spend your day at leisure at the beach hotel and enjoy beach activities. In the evening it’s dinner and overnight.
