Often overshadowed by the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire has immense concentrations of game in the peak months and a fraction of the visitors that go to any of the other Northern parks. The game viewing here from July through to October is superb and the atmosphere and habitat is completely different from the other parks. It offers a unique biosphere which has remained virtually unchanged since the beginning of time. Deep within the Crater, enclosed by towering walls, some 25,000 large mammals wander the plains, lakes and forests of “the land that time forgot” dominated by enormous bull elephants, rhinos and lions. 12:30 pm – Lunch then drive to Lake Manyara National Park. The compact game-viewing circuit through Manyara offers a virtual microcosm of the Tanzania safari experience from the entrance gate, the road winds through an expanse of lush jungle like groundwater forest where hundreds-strong baboon troops lunge nonchalantly along the roadside, blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bushbuck tread warily through the shadows, and outsized forest hornbills honk cacophonously in the high canopy. 10:30 pm – Drive back to Arusha. Travel time/distance is approximately (2½ Hrs / 130 kms)
