2 Days Tour of Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel in Dar by your driver guide and taken to the national Museum where you shall learn about the rich history of the city of Dar es Salaam and since it’s founding days, afterwards visit Dar es Salaam botanic garden that is well kept located at the heart of town, then go to the fish market and have a taste of the variety of delicious fish sold at the market. Then visit a very popular market called Kariakoo that got it’s name from a corruption of the British “Carrier Corps” that used to be based in this area. It’s now known for it’s extensive market that spans several city blocks providing a variety of merchandise and high contributor of Dar es Salaam economy. Do some shopping and have your lunch. After lunch drive to Bagamoyo for dinner and overnight at Oceanic bay hotel and resort.

Have your breakfast at 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM, go for tour of this historical city. Visit Kaole ruins, the ruins consist of preserved cemetery of 22 graves including four pillar tombs the largest of which stand about 7m high, then visit the German boma built in 1897 as a regional headquarters. Afterwards go to the museum which highlights a good overview of the history of Bagamoyo and Kaole. Then go see a German block house. A circular coral rag structure with a ladder leading to the fortified roof, built in 1889 to protect Bagamoyo against the Abushiri rebellion. Visit the German cemetery the last resting place for German soldiers who died in the 19th century. Then go see the Liku house A pre-colonial, two store construction that was established by the Germans to serve as their first East Africans headquarter from 1888 to 1891. See the Caravanserai where caravan parties assembled and stocked up before trekking to the interior. Visit Nyumba ya Sanaa A modern architecture constructed entirely from tradition materials, where students put on a show of traditional music, dancing and mime. Get to see the Cross by the sea which is a green marble monument and cross erected in 1870 on the sea front where the body of Dr. Livingstone lay for a while before being moved to Zanzibar. In the early evening drive back to Dar es Salaam for drop off.
