Serengeti Migration
Witness the Serengeti Migration Up Close
The Serengeti Migration is one of the most breathtaking wildlife events in the world. Every year, over 1.5 million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles move across the Serengeti in search of fresh grazing lands. This incredible journey is filled with dramatic river crossings, predator action, and stunning landscapes that make it a must-see for any safari lover.

The Great Journey of the Serengeti Migration
This movement of animals is driven by the rains and the need for food. It starts in the southern Serengeti, where thousands of calves are born between January and March. As the dry season approaches, the herds begin their journey north, facing challenges such as crocodile-infested rivers and hungry predators like lions and cheetahs.

By July, they reach the famous Mara River, where one of the most intense moments of the Serengeti Migration takes place—the dramatic river crossings. The strong currents and lurking crocodiles make this part of the journey both dangerous and fascinating to watch.

As the year ends, the herds move back to the southern Serengeti, completing their cycle and preparing for a new generation to begin the journey again.
Best Time to See the Serengeti Migration
The timing of the Serengeti Migration depends on nature, but in general:
January to March – Calving season in the southern Serengeti. This is the best time to see newborns and predator action.

April to June – The herds move northwest, crossing the central Serengeti and heading toward the Grumeti River.

July to October – The famous Mara River crossings happen during this period. This is one of the most thrilling moments of the migration.

November to December – The herds begin their journey back south, completing the cycle.
